Vibes & Virtues - How to Play
Greetings! We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has welcomed Vibes & Virtues into their homes. Whether you're a new player or have been with us since the beginning, this detailed guide is for you.
How to Play Vibes & Virtues - Let's Dive In:
Game Objective: To get rid of all of the cards in your hand (except for your yes & no cards)
- Prepare to Play: Shuffle the deck and begin by giving each player a hand of 5 cards—these could be question cards and/or special cards—and one 'Yes' and one 'No' card per player to cast votes.
- Starting the Game: The group decides if they're playing for honesty or with the chance to bluff, then the first player, the lead player, poses a question by placing a question card face up from their hand.
- Casting Your Vote: Everyone else votes on the question by placing their 'Yes' or 'No' card face down, keeping their answers secret.
-
The Guessing Game: The lead player attempts to guess the other players' votes. The accuracy needed for the lead player to discard a card varies by group size:
- In groups of 2-3 players, the lead player must guess 100% correctly.
- In groups of 4, the lead player must guess the responses of at least 2 out of the 3 other players
- In groups of 5-12, the lead player must guess at least half of the responses correctly, rounding up for odd-numbered groups (e.g., at least 3 correct guesses in groups of 5, 6 correct in a group of 11)
- Strategic Play: When leading with a question card, the lead player can frame the question in a way to influence answers. This is strategic: other players can pose questions, but the lead player may choose not to answer as part of their strategy.
- Continuing the Rounds: Play continues clockwise. The goal? Be the first to discard all your cards (except for your yes & no cards) and win the game!
-
A Special Note on Specialty Cards: These can add a twist to the game and are only playable when you're able to discard a card from your hand.
- Skip Card: Allows the player to skip the next person's turn. This can strategically be used to avoid certain players from leading the round.
- Reverse Card: Changes the direction of play. If the game is proceeding clockwise, it switches to counterclockwise, and vice versa.
- Repeat Turn Card: Grants the player who uses it an extra turn immediately. This can be a game-changer in terms of strategy and pace.
- Persuade Card: Comes in two variants – 'Yes' and 'No'. The player must persuade the group to answer 'Yes' or 'No' to the current question, depending on the card's type. This card challenges players to use their persuasive skills to influence the game's outcome.
- Draw Two Card: Forces the next player to draw two additional cards, potentially altering their strategy and slowing down their progress.
- Dictator Card: This powerful card allows the player to choose who goes next aside from themselves, giving them control over the flow of the game and potentially setting up strategic plays.
